EMILY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
A little church with a big heart.
Located in Emily, Minnesota - we are a small congregation with heart! We gather weekly for worship at 8:30 with a generous and delicious coffee fellowship to follow. We hope you'll join us!
The pastors have put together a wonderful opportunity for you to engage with the story of Jesus' journey to the cross. Each morning, check Facebook or the Holy Week webpage for a video message, then work through the devotion at your own pace. There are daily devotionals starting with Palm Sunday and ending with Easter. Each day will have its own devotion page for you to follow. Click here beginning Sunday to start your own journey through message, scripture, image, prayer, and song. We hope these devotions will be a blessing to you.
CHURCH @ HOME
Out of love for each other and our neighbor, ALL worship and group activities at Emily Church are on pause until further notice. This means we will NOT have in-person Sunday Worship, but will have the opportunity to worship online. Our online worship will be a joint experience with our partner congregation.

WORSHIP WITH US
When it is safe to resume, we will return to Sunday Worship at 8:30 a.m. We sing, pray, listen to scripture, and hear an inspiring message. We're a small and friendly congregation - with room for you! We gift each guest a coffee mug, a sign of our gratitude for your presence!
Have you missed a week? Listen to our Pastors sermons here.
We hope we'll see us you soon!
GROW WITH US
Every Thursday we gather for a time of conversation, coffee, and a book study. This space is open to anyone, and is a wonderful way to connect in with the community here at Emily Church. No experience necessary!
Our United Methodist Women (UMW) meet on the first Thursday of the month. And our Men's Breakfast gathers on the second Saturday of the month at 8:00 a.m. Best breakfast in town!
Our church has a big heart for missions. We are actively involved in several missions locally and abroad. We believe missions is one important way that we follow Jesus and grow in faith.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Our building is an updated traditional white church with a bright red door. Warm pews, friendly people and sunshine streaming through our windows offer a welcoming and cozy feel. Our worship is casual, yet traditional. We sing hymns led by piano, offer prayer requests aloud, and celebrate communion on the first Sunday of each month. We welcome all persons to receive this holy meal. After worship, we gather for coffee and treats - and hope you'll join us for this time of conversation!
We love to meet new friends, whether you find yourself living in or visiting the area! Our fellowship area is spacious and our building is also handicap accessible.
THURSDAY COMMUNITY TIME
Jesus loved to gather around the table, and so do we! Not only do we host fellowship following weekly worship, but every Thursday we gather for conversation and a book study. We believe this time with our faith-family nourishes not only our bodies but also our spirits!
You're welcome to join us anytime. We meet for conversation & coffee at 1.30, with book study to follow.
COMMUNITY EVENTS & CONCERTS
Each summer, we host various learning events for the community. We host speakers to share their expertise on various topics, such as tick-borne illnesses, advance directives, senior living, and more. We also host a picnic and concert fundraiser which benefits our local food shelf. In 2019, we raised over $2000!
We have a big heart for missions. We believe if everyone does just a little bit, we can make BIG difference in our community and world.
We support the Laos Mission Initiative by supporting two missionaries, training for pastors, planting churches, and empowering women and youth across Laos.
Since 2006, we have raised over $11,000 for Heifer International. These donations support persons in developing counties by purchasing animals and providing training for women.
We collect a monthly "noisy offering" supporting Mobility Worldwide, which provides hand-cranked carts to people across more than 100 counties. These greatly increase mobility for folks in villages where wheelchairs are not available or usable due to the terrain. These carts have also helped people begin a small mobile business, which has allows greater independence and ability to educate children and support their families. Through these simple offerings of loose change, our church has purchased 2 carts each year! In total we have been able to raise funds for nearly 50 carts!
We also support our local food shelf, community garden, laundromat, and care center, among other mission efforts.
REV. BETHANY & REV. LUKE NELSON
Pastor Luke & Pastor Bethany were appointed to Emily in 2019. They have served several congregations, individually and together, around Minnesota - but are delighted to be making their home now in the lakes area. They both attended Hamline University for their undergraduate degrees. Pastor Bethany received her MDiv from Luther Seminary in St Paul, MN; while Pastor Luke received his MDiv from Claremont School of Theology in Claremont, CA.
They are parents to three young boys and also pastor Park Church in Brainerd. When not at church, you're likely to find them at a coffee shop, playground, or gym. Our Pastors do not hold regular office hours at church, but love to work within the community. You're most likely to see them around town on Thursdays. They would love to meet you for coffee, reach out to set something up!
